I love pancakes! I would eat them for breakfast, for lunch and for dinner, event before sleep. Usually I make them in a very simple manner – with milk, flour, some eggs and sugar. Sometimes with white cheese, apples or meat inside.

Have I mentioned that Mardi Gras or Pancakes Tuesday is my favorite occasion?

How to make pancakes? What are the main tips?

The main ingredients for pancakes are eggs, sugar, some salt, milk and flour. Don’t forget to grease a pan. Basically, you just beat eggs, add some granulated sugar, salt, pour some milk, and eventually some flour. You mix it and you bake it. Simple as that!

But what about products itself?

Eggs. I usually use three eggs, it is a perfect quantity for a family of three. Sometimes we do have eggs from our countryside – if you have possibility to get some of them, I would highly recommend. Pancakes baked with rustic eggs are softer and thicker.

Sugar. There is no specific recommendation what sugar should be used. I use granulated sugar, sometimes I do add some vanilla sugar – I really love the smell!

Milk. Pancakes is a perfect dish to make if you really need to use all milk you have, if it is sour milk and not very tasty to drink. I always use milk that is 2,5-3,5 fat.

Flour. It is a very important ingredient, because it determines how soft and thick pancakes will be. Certainly, it is more about the quantity, but also about the structure. I always use high quality ones (550D).

Apart of these products you can also add some white cheese or white cream, also mix flour with some baking powder. All of them will make pancakes fluffier and thicker.

How to make Heart Shaped Pancakes?

I tried to make some shaped pancakes for Christmas with metal shapes for cookies, but it didn’t end very well. So, I was very happy to find silicone mold for pancakes. It was quiet cheep, so I decided to give it a try.

But how to use heart shaped silicone mold for pancakes?

  1. Grease the pan and silicone mold well.
  2. Place the mold on the pan and preheat on medium-low heat.
  3. While the pan is heating, prepare your pancake batter.
  4. Pour the pancake batter into the molds until the batter just spreads to the walls (about 1 tbsp/15 mL). Don’t overfill; the batter will rise during cooking.
  5. Once the pancake batter has bubbled, lift the tab and shake slightly. If the pancake does not easily release from the mold, continue cooking for 10 seconds, then repeat.
  6. Flip the pancakes to finish cooking.
  7. Grease the molds again for the next round, and start at step 4. You don’t have to wait for the pan and molds to preheat.

How to serve Heart Shaped Pancakes?

As you wish! There is no limits of your imagination and your taste! I served these pancakes with my mom’s homemade cherry jam and a bit of sugar powder. The taste was perfect!

Just have in mind that pancakes become cold very very very fast. I do recommend you while baking to put them in a closed bowl, so you can save some heat.
